Dairy and Frozen Department Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Employee’s job description will be to manage the dairy and frozen food department of Rittenhouse Market through proper ordering and purchasing, merchandising and selection of assortment. Ability to direct and hold accountable other members of the team is required for success in the position. Additional responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, receiving duties and training in all other departments throughout the store.  Through Employee’s professional experience they will be required to use his skills and learn new management skills to apply to the specific needs of the store, including without limitation to perform the following functions personally or through the proper direction of others;

  • Proper ordering and purchasing procedures.
  • Utilize the FIFO (First IFirst Out) rule in managing inventory and merchandising.
  • Complete understanding of proper receiving procedures and a thorough understanding of proper submission of all paperwork to the office.
  • Assist in properly staffing the dairy and frozen departments of the store through effective scheduling to meet the needs of the department by maintaining the highest levels of customer service and satisfaction. 
  • Enforcing the store manual.
  • Proper direction of department clerks using good communication skills.
  • Awareness of loss prevention procedures.
  • Present during all quarterly inventory counts.
  • Maintain dairy and frozen food department at or above levels of cleanliness standards to achieve compliance with the codes established by the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health.  
  • Position requires attainment of Philadephia Food Establishment Food Safety certificate within 90 days of employment, if not already held.
  • Assist in the effective management of the PLU file to maintain compliance with the PLU Scanning code title 70 Chapter 5.  This is available at http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/070/chapter5/chap5toc.html
  • Complete understanding of all front-end procedures for cash control and accurate accountability.
  • Manager on Duty (MOD) responsibilities.
  • This position will primarily be scheduled for closing MOD shifts, scheduled until approximately 10:30pm.

While MOD, the following duties may be required

  • Proper direction of department clerks using good communication skills.
  • Staffing of cashiers.
  • New and continuing education of cashiers.
  • Settling cashiers.
  • Settling the house.
  • Troubleshooting reconciliation problems.
  • Making the deposit to be picked up by armored car service.
  • Requisition of change.
  • Accurate completion of weekly sales sheet.
  • Maintaining organization of the front end.
  • Properly handling any breakdowns of the front-end system by contacting the POS vendor or the EFT vendor.
  • Facing the challenges of maintaining order between cashiers and customers through professionalism and courtesy.
  • Accountability procedures for US Postage Stamps, Smart Cards and other various items that are counted, tracked and controlled like cash.



 

HOURS PER WEEK:  Fluctuating, as scheduled with a minimum of forty (40) hours per week

WORKWEEK:  Hours are to be completed in a schedule to be determined by Store Manager to suit the needs of the store. Weekends, nights and holidays will be included in scheduled hours.  This is a guideline with the understanding that Employee is expected to do whatever it takes to make sure that the job gets done.  All extra efforts are looked upon positively when reviewed.
