Deli Manager

Employee’s job description will be to manage the deli department.  Through employee’s professional experience the employee has the ability to quickly gain a complete understanding of how to use his / her skills and learn new management and supermarket industry specific skills to apply to the specific needs of the store, including without limitation to perform the following functions personally or through the proper direction of others and possess the following abilities;

·        Adhere to proper ordering and receiving procedures for quantity and quality.  Assist receiver in the receiving process and organized stowing of inventory and supplies.

·        Complete inventory shrink sheets punctually, neatly, legibly and accurately.  Utilize the information contained in the shrink sheets to achieve best balance of inventory levels to maximize sales and reduce loss.

·        With the approval of the store manager, properly staff the department through effective hiring and training practices.  Properly schedule department staff for adequate department coverage.  Administer progressive discipline of department staff in accordance with the Employee Manual.

·        Awareness of loss prevention procedures.

·        Present during all scheduled quarterly, monthly and any additional inventory counts as needed.

·        Maintain department cleanliness to be in compliance with the codes established by the City of Philadelphia Department of Public Health.  Employee must have a Philadelphia Food Establishment Food Safety Certificate or be able to pass the test to obtain one.  Company will pay for the first test.  If additional tests are required, it will be the responsibility of the employee to pay for the cost of the test(s) to achieve a passing grade.

·        Maintain compliance in the department with the PLU Scanning code title 70 Chapter 5.  This is available at http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/070/chapter5/chap5toc.html

·        Strive to beat or maintain monthly budgets.

·        Responsible for ordering and rotating inventory, setting proper retail prices through investigating general market conditions and pricing at various area competitors to achieve competitive retail pricing, insuring that supporting shelf signs state the proper retail price, insuring that all retail pricing for each item is set at the proper retail price in the POS System and in department scales, merchandising the department, and maximizing a sandwich, prepared foods and soup program.  Managing proper levels of supply inventory.

·        Using best practices for buying best quality items at lowest possible price to achieve desired margins in the department while striving to offer the best value for the Company’s customers.

·        Develop and maintain a weekly schedule to oversee the breakdown, cleaning and resetting / re-merchandising of all refrigerated deli cases and dry merchandising tables.

·        Develop and maintain a quarterly schedule to breakdown and clean the walk-in boxes.

·        Dedicated and invested in creating a warm and safe environment for customers and store employees.

·        Must possess basic math skills.

·        Must have a sense of urgency and ability to work in a fast-paced environment at all times with all levels of employees.

·        Must have the ability to understand and implement verbal and written instruction.                         

Employee has no physical condition which will inhibit employee from carrying out tasks necessary to complete employee’s job description which may include, without limitation, stock work and standing, walking, bending, and climbing throughout the entire work day and the ability to lift, stack and maneuver objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.

Employee will exhibit the ability to evaluate situations in the best interest of the employer, distribute and be a part of assignments to promote productivity, strategically place and order merchandise to stimulate sales and satisfy the needs of the customer.  In addition, employee will strive to maintain a clean and organized work environment, provide prompt and courteous customer service and when necessary, stay until job tasks are completed by never leaving the store short-handed because employee’s scheduled shift ending time has arrived.

                                              

EMPLOYER’S GOALS

Employee realizes that this employment is an at-will relationship and can be ended by either party if so desired.  

HOURS PER WEEK:     

Fluctuating, as scheduled with a minimum of Forty (40) hours per week.

WORK WEEK:                

Hours are to be completed in a schedule that is to be determined by employee and store manager to suit the needs of the store.  Weekends, nights and holidays will be included in scheduled hours.  This is a guideline with the understanding that employee is expected to do whatever it takes to make sure that the job gets done.  All extra efforts are looked upon positively when reviewed.
